This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.
Liam Campbell’s appeal against surrender to Lithuania over alleged international weapons smuggling was dismissed by the Court of Appeal on 28 July 2021. The warrant alleges that he arranged to acquire firearms and explosives for smuggling into Ireland while acting for the Real IRA.
The court found there was an intention to put Campbell on trial and upheld the High Court’s surrender order. The warrant also lists alleged offences of preparing a crime, illegal firearms possession and terrorism; Campbell’s lawyers had argued that Lithuania had not decided whether to prosecute him.
