Kevin Mulcahy has pleaded not guilty to sexual assault charges at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, reported on 8 February 2019. The charges relate to alleged incidents at his surgery in Mallow, County Cork, in 1995 and 1996.

During the trial, psychiatrist Dr Bobby Burns said the complainant had previously suffered acute delusional psychotic disorder and was later diagnosed with bipolar disorder. He said her illness did not contribute to the allegations, while agreeing she had experienced delusions when unwell.

The trial was continuing before Judge Pauline Codd and a jury.
