Brady was charged with murdering the 59-year-old on an unknown date between 2 and 3 August 2015 at The New Apartments on Holborn Street, Sligo.
The Central Criminal Court heard evidence from Mr Kivlehan’s brother, friends and gardaí, including evidence about the scene and a knife found near his neck.
