Judge Patricia Ryan adjourned Jamie O’Rourke’s case for sentencing on July 10 and ordered a Probation Services report.
O’Rourke pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to attempting to rob the Centra store at River Valley, Swords, and robbing the Tanning Salon in Swords. The offences occurred on 26 August 2019, and he had been in custody since that date.
The court heard that a man tapped the Centra till with a knife and demanded money before the shop owner chased him out with a step ladder. O’Rourke then ran to the tanning salon, ordered the assistant to open the till and took €156, the report said.
Gardaí tasered O’Rourke as he tried to escape and followed a wire into a bush where he was hiding. He later told gardaí he had no memory of the incident because he had taken heroin that day.
O’Rourke had 36 previous convictions, including robbery and attempted robbery. His barrister said he came from an unstable family background and started abusing drugs at a young age.
