This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Greta Dudko was on trial at the Central Criminal Court accused of murdering her mother, Anna Butautiene, at their Dublin home on 24 December 2010. The proceedings were reported on 8 July 2013.

Dudko pleaded not guilty to murder but guilty to manslaughter, a plea the Director of Public Prosecutions did not accept.

In her opening speech, prosecutor Pauline Walley SC said Anna Butautiene suffered injuries during a row and that the pathologist would say the cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head.

The report said Dudko told gardaí she was drunk and that her mother had started hitting her with something. Asked whether she used a weapon, Dudko denied doing so, said she had pushed her mother against a wall and claimed her mother had tried to kill her.

Walley said that, when gardaí pressed Dudko, she said she had obtained a bottle after pushing her mother and hit her twice around the face and head. Walley told the jury the pathologist said there were between five and eight blows around the head.

Detective Sergeant Paul Curran said burnt passport remnants bearing Anna Butautiene’s name were found in the bin and that he photographed a bloodstained Irish Knights liqueur bottle. The trial continued before Mr Justice Garrett Sheehan and a jury of seven men and five women.
