Gerard Hutch's murder-charge dismissal bid refused

By Rory Hanlon

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Gerard Hutch's bid to dismiss the murder charge was refused by the Special Criminal Court on 15 July 2022. Ms Justice Tara Burns said the non-jury court could not hear the application because Hutch had been charged there directly rather than sent forward from the District Court.

Hutch was charged on 29 September 2021 with murdering David Byrne at Dublin's Regency Hotel on 5 February 2016. His proposed application to have evidence ruled inadmissible was to be dealt with during the trial, which was adjourned until 3 October 2022. The report said Hutch was in custody and that his four co-accused supported the dismissal application.
