Gerard Conlon secures €900,000 debt write-off in High Court

The High Court approved Gerard Conlon’s Personal Insolvency Arrangement, reported on 14 November 2022.

The 15-month arrangement allows Conlon to write off approximately €900,000 owed to Pepper Asset Servicing and remain in his family home.

Conlon, 41, had run a retail business that ceased trading in 2019 after a downturn in sales.

The arrangement requires him to keep paying the mortgage on his two-bedroom home over 29 years and to make payments to Revenue.

It is also funded by an €8,800 third-party payment, while a property he owns in Dundalk will be transferred to Pepper.

Conlon owed Pepper more than €1.1 million, including €170,000 on a mortgage secured against a home valued at €130,000.

He also owed Revenue €78,000 and smaller sums to unsecured creditors.

His business difficulties followed property borrowing with a relative between 2000 and 2008; the properties were later repossessed as the loans became unsustainable.
