This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Dylan Tuke’s sentence for assault causing harm was adjourned at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court after a hearing on 9 March 2021. The proceedings were reported on 9 March 2021.

Tuke pleaded guilty to one count of assault causing harm to a taxi driver at Main Street, Swords. He had no previous convictions.

Garda Elaine Duffy told the court that the assault occurred in the early hours of 16 December 2018. Tuke repeatedly punched the driver in a dispute after the driver asked him to pay the fare upfront. The driver’s front teeth were broken.

In a victim impact statement, the driver said he felt defenceless while driving his taxi and no longer enjoyed his work. He said he still suffered headaches and had a facial scar.

At the sentence hearing, Tuke told Judge Pauline Codd there was no excuse for his behaviour. Garda Duffy said she believed he had acted out of character after having a few drinks and was extremely remorseful when interviewed.

Defence barrister Aidan McCarthy urged the judge to impose a sentence that would avoid a conviction, saying it could prevent Tuke travelling to competitions abroad. Tuke had €1,000 in court as a token of remorse. Judge Codd adjourned sentencing to 11 October to allow him to raise more compensation, saying she was making no guarantees.
