A Dublin man received a four-year suspended sentence for sexually assaulting four cousins at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, reported on 29 July 2019. He had pleaded guilty to six sexual assault charges involving offences in Dublin city between 2000 and 2006.

The man, who cannot be named to protect his victims, was aged 33 at sentencing. The judge imposed terms of between one and four years for the six charges but suspended all of them.

The court heard that the offences left the extended family deeply divided, while the victims described lasting effects in their impact statements. The judge noted his early guilty plea, his developing insight and a moderate risk of reoffending within five years.
