This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.
Dr Andrea Hermann was found guilty of poor professional performance at a Medical Council inquiry in Dublin, reported on 12 December 2016. She was also found guilty of professional misconduct on three counts. The findings concerned care provided to six mothers at Sligo General Hospital between August 2013 and February 2014.
The inquiry found that Dr Hermann made serious clinical errors, including an abnormal incision during an elective caesarean section and inappropriate prescribing of a blood-thinning drug to Patient D. Patient D later gave birth without any complications. It also found that she failed to disclose conditions imposed on her registration, including retraining and supervision requirements.
The fitness-to-practise committee’s report was due to go to the full Medical Council, which would determine any sanction.
