Charles Hutchinson was resentenced for unlawful killing at the Court of Appeal, receiving five years’ imprisonment with the final year suspended, as reported on 12 May 2017. He had originally been sentenced at Dundalk Circuit Criminal Court on 8 February 2016 after being convicted over the death of Lawrence ‘Michael’ McGeown following a one-punch assault in Dundalk.
The Court of Appeal found that the previous assault conviction had increased the sentence too substantially. The court imposed a revised five-year sentence, suspending the final 12 months after considering Hutchinson’s rehabilitation efforts in prison.
