Blackrock Medical Partners faces Galway Clinic asset freeze

By Eimear Byrne

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Blackrock Medical Partners Ltd was placed under a temporary asset-freezing injunction by the High Court following a dispute over Galway Clinic shares and legal costs. The proceedings were reported on 6 February 2020.

Marpole Ltd, BMD Investments Ltd and Parma Investments obtained the order after Blackrock Medical Partners lost earlier High Court litigation. The three firms’ legal costs had been estimated at approximately €800,000 but had yet to be quantified.

Rossa Fanning SC, for the three firms, told the court on 6 February 2020 that his clients feared proceeds from a share sale could be moved beyond their reach.

The ex-parte order prevents Blackrock Medical Partners from transferring, dissipating or moving its assets outside the jurisdiction. Separately, it prevents the company from reducing its assets within the jurisdiction, particularly the share-sale proceeds, below €800,000. Ms Justice Teresa Pilkington made the matter returnable the following week.
