Applicant loses bid to stop sexual abuse trial

By Niamh Kearney

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

The applicant was refused leave to stop a sexual abuse trial in the High Court on 15 February 2016.

The case concerns alleged abuse involving children at a Dublin home run by a religious order, according to the judgment.

Mr Justice Richard Humphreys held that amended offence dates did not create an inevitable risk of an unfair trial. The trial court could address the defence concerns, including through cross-examination and applications during the proceedings.

This report covers an earlier stage of the case. Later developments are not reported here.
