Anthony Craig loses appeal over murder sentence surrender

Anthony Craig’s appeal against surrender to the UK over his murder sentence was dismissed by the Court of Appeal on 21 May 2015.
The court held that surrendering him to serve the balance of his life sentence would not breach the Irish Constitution. Craig had been convicted of murder at Preston Crown Court in 1974 and later escaped from an English open prison in July 2002.
The UK also sought his surrender so he could face prosecution for escaping from custody, an offence the court said corresponded to an offence in Ireland.
