The Court of Appeal dismissed Noel Sheehan’s appeal against his conviction, rejecting his argument that the allegations made by one complainant should have been tried separately. Ms Justice Tara Burns said the allegation was more serious but differed from the other indecent assaults in gravity rather than character. She said Sheehan’s role as leader of the Scout troop to which all the complainants belonged was relevant to the opportunity it gave him. (Source published 3 June 2026.)
A jury found Sheehan guilty on 16 counts of indecent assault in April 2024. He had pleaded not guilty to charges involving five boys and was sentenced to four-and-a-half years, with the final six months suspended.
