Contact your TD · practical guide
How to write to your TD
A useful email tells your TD where the problem is, what happened and what help you want.
- Check that you have the TDs for your constituency. Use our lookup and confirm boundary cases on the official map.
- Start with one clear request. Add your town and a short timeline.
- Say which public body you contacted and when. Keep the reference if safe to share.
- Ask for a practical next step or a written update. Keep the email polite and specific.
- Read the To and CC fields. Remove issues@localnews.ie if you do not want us copied.
- Keep a copy and follow the responsible body’s own complaint or appeal process.
Do not attach private records or include other people’s names in a copied draft. If you need to share personal identifiers with the office, ask for a suitable private channel.
Choose a ready-to-edit template or ask about a clinic appointment.
Questions and answers
How long should my email be?
Keep it as short as you can while explaining the facts, what you already tried and the help you want.
Should I write to every TD in my constituency?
You can choose one or several; check the recipients and remember that everyone in To and CC can see those addresses.
Can a TD email replace a formal complaint?
No; use the responsible body’s own complaint or appeal channel and keep any applicable deadline.
