Labour Court recommends HSE meet worker over receptionist role dispute

The Labour Court has recommended that the Health Service Executive meet a worker within four weeks to discuss a possible resolution of a dispute over a receptionist role and the handling of the worker’s grievance. The worker said the full-time receptionist role he accepted did not match the duties he was given and that a requested second-stage grievance was not processed. The HSE said circumstances changed after the role was advertised, that the other duties were appropriate to the worker’s grade and that it had no mechanism to transfer him. It said it was willing to discuss specific concerns. In its recommendation dated 19 August 2026, the Court said it did not find that the HSE had misled the worker in the recruitment process. It recommended a meeting to advance discussions, taking account of recruitment restrictions; the parties indicated they would engage in good faith.
