The Labour Court recommended that a worker accept Raidió Teilifís Éireann’s €2,800 ex-gratia payment in a dispute over employment-related benefits from 2013 to 2019. The decision was signed on 1 September 2026, varying the Adjudication Officer’s earlier recommendation, which had not upheld the claim. The worker, represented by SIPTU, said the payment did not reflect losses arising from his engagement on independent contracts. The union said the claim concerned pension, annual leave, public holidays and privilege days, and put the losses at €77,000. RTÉ said the 0.16 full-time equivalent contract offered in 2019 reflected the worker’s pattern of engagement over the previous two years, under principles agreed with the unions. The Court said the worker’s work pattern during that period, including work elsewhere, explained the smaller retrospective offer. It saw no basis to depart from the agreed formula and recommended that he accept the €2,800 payment.
