Labour Court declines to recommend compensation for Cork City Council worker

The Labour Court has not recommended that Cork City Council pay compensation to a worker who said he lost the chance to compete for an Assistant General Foreman post. The worker, represented by Connect Trade Union, sought about €10,000 after an appointment was made from a recruitment panel while it was still active, but the process was completed after the panel expired. In its recommendation dated 8 April 2026, the Court said the appointment process departed from good practice. It noted that approval to fill the vacancy had been granted while the panel was active and that the appointment would normally have been formalised before it expired. The Court did not recommend that the Council concede the compensation claim.
