Labour Court sets out two options in Carlow caretakers’ overtime dispute

The Labour Court recommended that two Carlow County Council caretakers represented by SIPTU consider keeping their split-shift arrangement or switching to 8am–3.30pm, with ad hoc overtime as needed. The recommendation was dated 15 October 2025. The caretakers sought regular and rostered overtime, saying their daily and weekend split shifts disadvantaged them. The Council said it had no need for regular overtime. The Court could not recommend it and said the employer should facilitate a timely change if the workers chose to switch arrangements.
