Labour Court recommends €1,500 payment to Garda worker over grievance delay

The Labour Court has recommended that An Garda Síochána pay a worker €1,500 after finding it failed to respond substantively to his grievance for about four to five months and did not deal with him respectfully or in line with its procedures. The dispute also concerned the expiry of a reserve promotion panel. The Court did not recommend appointing the worker, finding no agreement required appointments from an expiring panel and no unfair treatment in the circumstances. The worker was 59th on a later panel of 63 candidates, from which 31 people had been promoted. The Court recommended the €1,500 ex-gratia payment as a goodwill gesture in full and final settlement of the trade dispute. The recommendation was signed on 4 February 2025.
