The Labour Court has recommended that Bidvest Noonan pay €500 to each of 52 Workers who would have qualified for the State’s Covid Recognition Scheme if their client site had been a public healthcare facility. The workers, represented by SIPTU, sought recognition for their work at a private hospital during the pandemic. The Court noted that public healthcare workers doing similar work received a State-funded payment, while the private hospital client paid its own staff a recognition payment without State funding. The Court said the workers had provided a vital service in a healthcare setting and recommended the payment in recognition of their contribution. It was to be made in the most tax-efficient manner possible under Revenue rules and accepted in full and final settlement. The recommendation was signed on 4 February 2025.
