The Labour Court recommended that Kilkenny County Council introduce time-for-time time off in lieu for all workers, including staff at its Castlecomer and Goal Road depots. It also recommended compensation under the applicable Public Service Agreement for affected workers at those depots to cover the difference in value between the old and new arrangements. The dispute was referred by SIPTU, representing 80 Workers, after the Council introduced a new policy in 2022. SIPTU sought to retain premium-rate time off in lieu at the two depots, while the Council said the previous arrangements created staffing, budget and auditing difficulties and sought a consistent policy. The Court issued its recommendation on 11 December 2024.
