The Labour Court upheld an earlier recommendation in a worker’s appeal against Carlow County Council, and the appeal failed. The decision was signed on 8 July 2024. The earlier recommendation included €150 for attending an Occupational Health appointment that was held remotely, €9.60 for parking, mileage at the Council’s normal rates and €250 for delay in processing a grievance. The Court said the recommendations adequately addressed any procedural shortcomings. The worker raised concerns about pandemic-era work instructions, protective equipment and a return-to-work form. He said he travelled to Dublin for an appointment that turned out to be online; the Council described the mismatch as an oversight and disputed that it had compromised his health and safety.
