Labour Court recommends medical and dental proposals be implemented without delay

The Labour Court has recommended that the Department Of Health, the HSE and the IMO implement proposals for medical and dental workers without further delay. The recommendation was dated 19 October 2023. The dispute concerned how sectoral bargaining funds under Building Momentum could be used. The IMO said the remaining fund could support pay increases for doctors earning less than €150,000. The Department argued that the agreement provided a route to address outstanding awards and said the IMO would not accept management’s proposals. The Court found no basis to exclude workers earning more than €150,000 from pooling their 1% in the sectoral fund. It recommended implementing the proposals, except for an increase to the on-call allowance for Sexual Assault Treatment Unit staff.
