Labour Court rejects medical officers’ allowance claim at regulator

The Labour Court declined to recommend restoring an allowance for 10 medical officers recruited after 2012 at the Health Products Regulatory Authority. Its recommendation, signed on 22 August 2019, rejected the Irish Medical Organisation’s claim that removing the allowance created a two-tier pay structure.

The authority said the allowance had been paid in error and retained for six earlier recipients on an individual red-circled basis. The Court noted the workers had raised no issue about the allowance for five years and said those retained allowances could not be used as a comparison. The Court could not recommend conceding the claim, which failed.
