The Labour Court recommended that Io Systems and CWU resolve their dispute over proposed cost reductions by moving from 12-hour to 8-hour shifts and paying affected staff a €1,000 contract-retention bonus in two instalments. The recommendation was signed on 12 February 2015. The Court noted that CWU had cooperated with earlier cost-containment measures that reduced members' incomes. Io Systems said further savings were needed because its contract price could not support its current cost structure. It recommended that CWU cooperate with the shift changes and accept rates of 20% and 21%, respectively, until the current contract expires, after which the rates would return to current levels. It also recommended that Io Systems engage with CWU on a wage and job-security framework before bidding to renew the contract.
