Labour Court recommends €5,000 compensation for worker dismissed without process

The Labour Court recommended that Joseph Stewarts Cornmills pay €5,000 compensation to a worker it found had been unfairly dismissed. The recommendation was signed on 28 April 2014. The worker said there had been no performance concerns or warnings before dismissal, and that no notice or valid reason was given. On the uncontested evidence, the Court found the employer ended the worker’s employment without giving an opportunity to address the complaints, contrary to the Code of Practice on Grievance and Disciplinary Procedures. It described the dismissal as procedurally and substantively unfair.
