The Labour Court recommended that Queally Pig Slaughtering Limited T/A Dawn Pork & Bacon pay a general operative €5,000 in full and final settlement of his unfair dismissal claim. The recommendation was signed on 14 June 2013. The worker’s union said he had not been told his absences could put his job at risk and was not allowed representation at the disciplinary hearing. The employer did not attend the hearing. The Court found that the worker was entitled to know his employment was in jeopardy and to be represented at the hearing. It said the dismissal procedures were flawed.
