The Labour Court did not recommend conceding the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union’s claim for phased pay increases totalling 6% for six security officers employed by Noonan Service Group at Shannon Airport. The recommendation was signed on 14 June 2013. The union said the workers were entitled to the increases under Towards 2016 and that other security officers at the site had received them. Noonan Service Group argued that their composite rates were already above industry norms and that further increases would affect competitiveness. The Court said the composite rate had been introduced to attract staff, rather than to maintain a lasting differential over other rates. It noted that pay rates had since aligned, leaving the six workers on the same rates as other security officers at the site.
