The Labour Court recommended that DAA compensate four car park controllers after the company ended their standing-up allowance. The recommendation was signed on 31 January 2013. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union sought compensation of two and a half times the workers’ annual loss, saying the supervisory duties had become a regular part of their work and earnings. DAA opposed the claim, saying workers knew a restructuring would remove the supervisor role. The Court recommended one year’s average standing-up earnings for each claimant, calculated over 2008–2011. The allowance had been paid when car park controllers covered supervisory duties during the supervisor’s absence, and ended when the role was removed in 2011.
