The Labour Court recommended that Bridgestone Ireland Ltd bring its sick-pay procedures into line with modern standards, but did not recommend conceding Thomas Brennan’s claim. The recommendation was signed on 30 January 2013. Brennan sought sick pay for six days’ absence in July 2010, relying on the company handbook and saying he called his supervisor while in hospital. Bridgestone Ireland Ltd cited 52 days of absence in the previous 12 months and said Brennan had not followed its procedures. The Court found the records of procedures used in the case were deficient. It also noted Brennan had been restored to the sick-pay scheme and chose not to take an offered appeal; the Court did not uphold that aspect of the claim.
