The Labour Court recommended in favour of the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union’s claim against Community Workers Co-Op for enhanced redundancy terms. The recommendation was signed on 25 April 2012. The union sought three weeks’ pay per year of service, on top of statutory redundancy payments, for two workers. The Co-op accepted the claim was fair but said it could not afford ex-gratia payments after government funding was withdrawn. The Court said the payment sought was in line with redundancy payments in comparable employment. It also recommended that the recommendation be included in national talks between the Department and the union.
