The Labour Court recommended enhanced redundancy terms for four workers at Kerry Diocesan Youth Service (Kdys), including 2.5 weeks’ pay per year of service on top of statutory entitlements. The recommendation was signed on 4 April 2012. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union sought four weeks’ pay per year of service for its members, who had between eight and 10 years’ service on average. KDYS said it had no funds of its own for additional payments and that its funding contracts did not provide for them. The Court recommended that KDYS and Pobal share the cost of the enhanced payments. It also recommended that the employer and union jointly approach Pobal and relevant funders to secure their contribution.
