The Labour Court recommended voluntary redundancy payment bands, plus statutory redundancy, for staff affected by the planned closure of Clondalkin Pharma (Cahill Printers)’ Clonshaugh plant. The recommendation was signed on 22 December 2011. The bands ranged from €3,000 for two to five years’ service to €15,000 for 20 or more years’ service, with applications due by 20 January 2012. The Dpgu / TEEU argued workers should be compensated whether made redundant or transferred, while the company said it could afford only statutory redundancy. The Court noted the company’s commitment to pay in lieu of notice and protect terms for workers transferred to Glasnevin or Cherry Orchard, but did not recommend a relocation payment.
