Labour Court recommends overtime compensation for Dun Laoghaire Harbour staff

The Labour Court recommended that six maintenance staff at Dun Laoghaire Harbour Company receive compensation for lost regular and rostered overtime at one-and-a-half times the established annual loss. Its recommendation was signed on 21 December 2011. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union argued that job cuts and cost reductions had improved the company’s position. The company said it remained in serious financial difficulty and that the end of Stena Line sailings from the harbour would reduce revenue. The Court did not recommend buying out travel time or the eating-on-site allowance at that stage, recommending a review in January 2013 instead. It also recommended putting the package to a union ballot as a full and final settlement of the outstanding issues.
