The Labour Court found it was more probable than not that shift work was a factor in the original grant of three additional annual leave days to Dublin City Council / Dublin Fire Brigade firefighters. The dispute was brought by the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union and the Irish Municipal, Public and Civil Trade Union. The unions said firefighters received 20 days’ annual leave and that three winter leave days were additional. Dublin City Council / Dublin Fire Brigade said firefighters had 24 days’ leave alongside roster arrangements. The Court found the records did not establish the days’ original purpose, but left the consequences of its finding for the parties to address. The recommendation was signed on 14 December 2011.
