The Labour Court recommended running An Post’s old and new call-centre systems in parallel during the move to a new IT workflow system, then reviewing staffing and operations. The recommendation was signed on 18 August 2011. An Post and the Civil & Public Services Union disagreed over staffing, selection, recognition, rotation, flexibility and the call centre’s location. The union argued eight staff would not provide enough cover and sought rotation and flexitime for transferred employees. An Post said staffing would be reviewed as workloads changed and confirmed recognition rights for transferring union members. The Court recommended that competitions for new posts be open to permanent and temporary employees and that the parties discuss flexibility measures. It also recommended locating the call centre within the customer service centre on the GPO’s ground floor.
