The Labour Court recommended that Greenstar Ltd recognise the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union for collective bargaining and industrial relations purposes for its members employed by the company. The recommendation was signed on 30 August 2011. The union sought recognition beyond Greenstar Environmental Services, where it already represented members. Greenstar Ltd said employees could join the union but it wanted to continue negotiating directly with employees outside that operation. The Court recommended the parties meet to agree procedures for implementing recognition.
