The Labour Court rejected a claim by the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union for enhanced redundancy terms for six cleaners employed by Aramark Ireland. The recommendation was signed on 13 June 2011. The workers had transferred to Aramark in 2005 after the company took over the cleaning contract at Cedar House. The union sought two weeks’ pay per year of service plus the statutory redundancy entitlement. Aramark said the workers had declined alternative work on existing pay and conditions; the union disputed that meaningful offers had been made. The Court found alternative employment was available on the workers’ protected terms and conditions, and recommended against enhanced redundancy terms.
