Labour Court rejects union’s pay increase claim against Kilkenny Golf Club

The Labour Court did not recommend conceding the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union’s claim for pay increases at Kilkenny Golf Club. Its recommendation was signed on 13 June 2011. The union sought increases of 3.5% from 1 November 2008 and 2.5% from 1 April 2009 under the Towards 2016 National Agreement. The club cited declining revenue and the need to control spending to protect its long-term financial viability and jobs. The Court noted that an independent assessor had upheld the club’s inability-to-pay plea and said there was nothing before it to undermine that assessment. It therefore found no basis to recommend conceding the union’s claim.
