The Labour Court recommended that RPS Group Limited concede the union’s claim for enhanced redundancy terms for a receptionist and administrator whose job became redundant in December 2009. The recommendation was dated 29 September 2010. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union sought two weeks’ average pay per year of service in addition to statutory redundancy, as recommended in an earlier case. RPS Group Limited said an enhanced package would increase costs and risk the business’s viability, while acknowledging that it had been trading profitably when the worker was made redundant. The Court said its recommendation took account of the company’s capacity to pay.
