The Labour Court recommended that Glanbia Consumer Foods pay compensation for lost Sunday earnings using the existing formula of 1.5 times annual loss, and a €105 weekly premium for workers on the new Sunday night shift. The recommendation was dated 27 September 2010. The dispute followed the company's decision to end Sunday working as part of a cost-cutting exercise. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union said the changes reduced members' earnings and sought compensation and a shift premium. Glanbia said it had offered compensation at 1.5 times lost earnings and that night shift workers received a higher premium. The Court said workers on a shift with one night beginning at 00:01 and four or more nights beginning at 22:00 should accept the €105 weekly premium. For one worker's lost Sunday work, it recommended that he accept Glanbia's offer of compensation at 1.5 times his annual loss.
