Labour Court recommends enhanced redundancy terms at Fujitsu

The Labour Court recommended that Fujitsu (Ireland) Limited pay a worker enhanced redundancy terms of four weeks’ pay per year of service, in addition to statutory redundancy entitlement. The recommendation was signed on 20 July 2010.

The worker, a receptionist and office administrator, sought the enhanced terms after being told her role was no longer required following a company amalgamation. Fujitsu said the role had become redundant, it had encouraged her to apply for other work, and the ex-gratia payment she received reflected company practice.

The company did not attend the hearing but provided its position in writing, which the Court considered alongside the worker’s submissions. The Court recommended the enhanced payment after considering both sides’ submissions.
