The Labour Court recommended on 25 March 2010 that Trimfold Limited bring its redundancy package into line with a precedent of 4.5 weeks’ pay per year of service, inclusive of statutory entitlement. The recommendation followed a dispute involving 18 Workers represented by the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union. Trimfold had made 17 workers redundant and offered statutory redundancy only. The union sought the more generous package, citing a 2007 agreement. The Court also recommended further discussions on the company’s proposals for a 39-hour week and removing paid tea breaks, with Labour Relations Commission assistance if needed. It said it would issue a final recommendation on those issues if the parties asked and could not reach agreement.
