The Labour Court recommended on 25 March 2010 that Mater Private Hospital and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union resume discussions over a restaurant allowance removed from 146 support staff. The allowance was worth €35 per month per person. The union sought restoration from 1 January 2009 and compensation for losses. The hospital said financial difficulties led it to remove the allowance and that 85% of staff had accepted its position. The Court recommended that both sides re-engage, with or without help from the Labour Relations Commission. If they could not agree, it would hear them again and issue a further recommendation.
