Labour Court recommends four weeks’ pay per year for Carroll Systems redundancies

The Labour Court recommended that Carroll Systems Limited offer workers at its Kilkenny plant four weeks’ pay per year of service, inclusive of statutory terms, with the unions to accept the package. The recommendation was dated 7 July 2009. The company said it could not afford even statutory redundancy payments. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union and the Union of Construction, Allied Trades and Technicians argued that the company was still trading and had refused their financial expert access to its accounts. The Court said the information before it did not rule out enhanced terms, noting a previous five-week agreement at Carroll Systems and a four-week arrangement at an associated company.
