The Labour Court recommended that Connaught Gold Co-Operative Society Limited offer workers two additional days of annual leave to settle a compensation claim brought by the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union. The recommendation was signed on 2 July 2009. The union sought compensation for workers affected by refurbishment and changes to rostering at the Ballina store. Connaught Gold argued the claim was cost-increasing and said the refurbished store had improved conditions. The Court said the disruption did not warrant monetary compensation, though the renovations caused some inconvenience. It recommended that the company offer, and the union accept, one additional day of annual leave in the current leave year and another in the following leave year, as a one-off, full and final settlement.
