The Labour Court recommended that Cork City Council offer €4,500 per person to settle a union claim for lost overtime after public lighting surveys stopped. It issued the recommendation on 12 December 2007. The Irish Municipal, Public And Civil Trade Union said workers had received regular overtime for 37 years and were told shortly before a survey that their services were no longer needed, without consultation. The council said new technology had ended the work and disputed that the overtime was regular and recurring.
