Labour Court rejects Roadbridge worker’s unfair dismissal claim

The Labour Court rejected a worker’s claim that Roadbridge Limited Trading As Roadbridge Civil Engineering Contractors unfairly dismissed him from a motorway project without fair selection criteria. The recommendation was dated 2 November 2006. The union argued that less-senior operatives were retained and questioned the selection process for remaining machinery work. Roadbridge said the project had shifted to skilled tasks for which the worker lacked the required skills, and that other employees were also let go. The Court said the selection criteria were not tainted by discrimination and were in line with construction-sector norms.
